Julianne Hough’s Medical Challenges

Posted in: Cody Linley, Julianne Hough by John on October 28, 2008

I’ve been in touch with Marriann and she is doing well. You can imagine that she’s concerned about the health of Julianne and her other daughters. However, she seemed in good spirits. She hasn’t had much time to write about what’s going on or upload pictures with all that’s been going on (imagine that), but I thought it might be worth reposting some of what Julianne posted on her fancast blog.

Actually what happened is last week was more than just a tummy ache. Obviously. It turned out I ruptured a cyst that was on my ovary. I didn’t’ know but I have endometriosis. I’ve apparently had it for a long time because I’ve had this pain for about the last five years. It hasn’t been as bad. Up till last week, I let it go and I was always too busy to get it checked out. But because it happened when I was on set, they made me go to the doctor.

They want to clean out the cysts and take out my appendix, too, because later on it can be affected by the cysts. Endometriosis is a common thing for women. I was like “thanks mom for giving me my great life – and endometriosis.” I said that jokingly. My sister who has five children is going in for the same surgery in a couple weeks.

Julianne also wrote about a possible Hough versus Hough finale that I’m sure Marriann would also love to see. Can you imagine the joy of a mother if that happens?

A few people have written in to this blog about wanting a Hough vs. Hough final, and I think that would be great fun. I hope it happens! Brooke has been a frontrunner from the beginning, and I think Cody has shown what this show is about. We’ll see.

Finally, Julianne wrote about how much help her mom has been for her:

As for the next week or so, my mom is going to take good care of me. She’s been with me for almost a month. Something seems to happen every week where I need her to stay. She’s been awesome.

  1. I’m gad to hear that Julianne is already home. I think it is so impressive that she is talking about her Endometriosis. I’ve been a fan of hers since DWTS – 4 , when she danced with my favorite Olympian: Apolo Ohno. She is an amazing dancer and has the voice of an angel. She’s such a sweet person too. I hope she has a speedy recovery.

    God Bless You Julianne!

  3. I hope Julianne can get the word out about endometriosis to young women. I was diaganosed at 21 and at 25 had to have a complete hysterectomy. I never had the chance to have children. I went through 4 surgeries before the big one trying to get rid of it…
There wasn’t much support out there for me, and not much known about the disease.
I hope Julianne is doing great and stay on top of your health….listen to your body if no one else does!!!!

  4. Julianne, as a long-time sufferer from endometriosis, I would encourage you to check out Dr. Albee at centerforendo.com in Atlanta, GA. Since you’re on the west coast, you might check out Dr. David Redwine in Bend Oregon. These two doctors think outside the box and are miracle workers when it comes to curing endo. I would be more than happy to tell you all I’ve learned after dealing with endo for 20 years and finally finding a cure.
